Ayat about spouses, love and mercy, the mahr and family life, in Arabic with translation. Families often recite them at the nikah or print them on invitation cards.
Ar-Rum 30:21
وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ مَوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
And of His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, that you may find tranquillity in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reflect.
An-Nisa 4:1 · part of the verse
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً
O mankind, be mindful of your Lord who created you from a single soul, and created from it its mate, and spread from the two of them many men and women.
Al-A'raf 7:189 · part of the verse
هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا
It is He who created you from a single soul, and made from it its mate, so that he might find rest in her.
An-Nahl 16:72 · part of the verse
وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ
And Allah has made for you spouses from among yourselves, and has made for you from your spouses children and grandchildren, and has provided you with good things.
Al-Baqarah 2:187 · part of the verse
هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَهُنَّ
They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them.
An-Nisa 4:4
وَآتُوا النِّسَاءَ صَدُقَاتِهِنَّ نِحْلَةً ۚ فَإِنْ طِبْنَ لَكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ نَفْسًا فَكُلُوهُ هَنِيئًا مَرِيئًا
And give the women their mahr as a free gift. But if they willingly give up any part of it to you, then enjoy it with pleasure and goodwill.
An-Nur 24:32
وَأَنْكِحُوا الْأَيَامَىٰ مِنْكُمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَائِكُمْ ۚ إِنْ يَكُونُوا فُقَرَاءَ يُغْنِهِمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
And marry off the unmarried among you, and the righteous among your male and female servants. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
Al-Furqan 25:74
وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
And those who say: Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous.
An-Nisa 4:19 · part of the verse
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
And live with them in kindness.
An-Nur 24:26 · part of the verse
وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَالطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَاتِ
Good women are for good men, and good men are for good women.
At-Tawbah 9:71 · part of the verse
وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ
The believing men and believing women are allies and protectors of one another.
Adh-Dhariyat 51:49
وَمِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ
And of everything We created pairs, so that you may reflect.
An-Naba 78:8
وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا
And We created you in pairs.
From the Sunnah: Sunan Abi Dawud 2130, Jami at-Tirmidhi 1091
بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ
May Allah bless you, shower His blessings upon you, and bring you together in goodness.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, used these words to congratulate a man on his marriage. On invitation cards it is often written for both spouses.
